In 2015, we got the opportunity to work on a project for Srujan, an NGO working for the uplift of
the ‘Kolam’ tribal community in Yavatmal. Srujan works on helping the local community utilize
local resources to make a living. They also work on various social and health issues. The
organization has residential quarters, an office, a training hall, and guest rooms. Apart from
these, the organization owns about 70 acres of farmland. The area faces an average of 10-12
hours of power cuts daily.
We modified the power system there to create a solar hub. Everything on the premises is now
solar-operated. We provided ceiling fans, lights for all the rooms, and street lights for the
premises. Even computers and mobile phones are now charged using solar power. Apart from
these, we installed solar-operated surveillance cameras on the site. We also installed 2 solar
water pumps, 5 hp each, one for the premises, and one for the agricultural land.
Since its inception in the late 1990s, Srujan has tackled important issues with empathy and
kindness, assuring countless people a life of dignity. We hope that our work has aided their
endeavours and been as much a source of happiness and comfort to them as it has been to us.
